Winter Gathering Dates: January 22-24, 2010
Camp Carolwood, Lenoir, NC
Camp Carolwood is a beautiful camp, just off of Highway 321 in Lenoir. Visit their site at:

for some interesting history, and pictures of this camp.
This is a great opportunity to make new friends, as well as to renew old friendships, in a relaxed atmosphere where there is time to choose planned activities, informally discuss homeschooling perspectives with other families, enjoy games, explore & visit.
General Camp Information:
We have reserved the whole camp with cabins, fire ring, dining hall with full commercial kitchen.
Accommodations:
Cabins
Meals :
Friday evening: Potluck: The best meal of the Gathering! We will eat at 6 PM. Please bring a main dish PLUS a salad, side dish or dessert. (Note: Please bring a list of ingredients for each dish you contribute - for our friends who limit their diet by choice or need).
Saturday Breakfast is sometimes a pancake breakfast fundraiser to support our scholarship program (planning and volunteers for this will be discussed on the yahoo list...)
Otherwise, Saturday breakfast is “on your own” – If you do not want to participate in the fundraiser you can bring your own food, but feel free to use the kitchen - AND clean up when you are done! We will have use of their large refrigerator but space is limited so please only use it for your perishables. And remember to label your food if you want it to be there when you are hungry.
Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday brunch. We will be preparing our own group meals in the camp Kitchen. Each family is asked to bring a snack to contribute to the Saturday snack table.
Cost for the meal package (includes 3 meals) is:
$12 per person, ages 12 years of age and older.
$6 per person 3-11 years of age.
Activities:
Does some member of your family have a skill or talent to share with us? Leading a campfire sing or special game, soapstone carving, recycled paper-making, an adult discussion of interest? The field is wide open to your creativity! We hope that each family will contribute an activity to the weekend – the activity leader may be of any age! If you plan an outdoor activity, you might consider also planning an alternative indoor activity in case of rain. Please indicate your choice on the activity sheet. Bring card & board games and puzzles for indoor time.
Chores:
Our weekend is a cooperative effort, making the work load a light one. We ask that everyone age 12 or over participate in two chores. If you or a family member has special needs please make sure to type that in, there is a space provided. As always, each family is responsible for leaving their cabin clean and neat upon exiting. Thanks!
Camping fees include use of the kitchen for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
