Families Learning Together NC
A Statewide Homeschooling Group

Fall Gathering Dates are: September 11-14  2008

Camp Millstone, Ellerbe, NC

This is a great opportunity to make new friends, as well as to renew old friendships, in a relaxed atmosphere where there is time to choose planned activities, informally discuss homeschooling perspectives with other families, enjoy games, explore trails & visit. Our gatherings are small – 20 to 30 families – and noncommercial in nature (no outside vendors).

General Camp Information:
We have reserved the whole Camp with cabins, fire ring, dining hall with full commercial kitchen.

Accommodations: Cabins or bring your own tent.
  Prices are listed below.

Meals :

Thursday evening, Friday morning and noon: On your own , we have use of the kitchen those times and there is room in the refrigerator for your food.  Please make sure to label your food if you put it in the fridge.

Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday brunch . We will be preparing our own group meals in the camp Kitchen . Each family is asked to bring a snack to contribute to the Saturday snack table.

Cost for the meal package (includes 3 meals) is:

$12 per person, ages 12 years of age and older.

$6 per person 3-11 years of age.

Activities:
Does some member of your family have a skill or talent to share with us? Leading a campfire sing or special game, soapstone carving, recycled paper-making, an adult discussion of interest? The field is wide open to your creativity! We hope that each family will contribute an activity to the weekend – the activity leader may be of any age! If you plan an outdoor activity, you might consider also planning an alternative indoor activity in case of rain. Please indicate your choice on the activity sheet. Bring card & board games and puzzles for indoor time.

Camp Millstone is nestled in the tall pines of the Sandhills near Ellerbe, NC, about 30 miles south of Southern Pines.

Near the center of the camp property is a picturesque 17-acre lake where campers can fish.  They have lots of hiking and a nice waterfall, mostly level hiking, not mountainous.  We will hopefully have canoeing available on Saturday (depends on lifeguard availability).  14 cabins, with 4 bunks inside and 3 beds on the screened in porch, so each cabin sleeps 11 people.  They have a nice fire ring with log benches.  Large kitchen and dining room.  A large field for games, and space around the camp for tenting.  The cabins do not have private bathrooms.  Instead, there are 2 bath houses.

Chores:
Our weekend is a cooperative effort, making the work load a light one. We ask that everyone age 12 or over participate in two chores. If you or a family member has special needs please make sure to type that in, there is a space provided. As always, each family is responsible for leaving their cabin clean and neat on Sunday. Thanks!

Camping fees include use of the kitchen for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Day guests are welcome to attend Friday all day, we encourage you to participate in any activities for the day. Please being an item for the potluck if you plan to stay for dinner. Write to the gathering coordinator to make arrangements.
